Anti-Bacterial Chemicals or Not?
Do I need to use harsh anti bacterial chemicals?
There is always a lot of talk about the spread of germs and flu bugs. So how should I kill the germs? Hand washing. It is the number one recommendation to stop germs which lead to infections.
Are Antibacterial Cleaning Products Necessary?
What kinds of chemicals kill germs, bacteria and viruses? Do you have to use harsh chemicals or antibacterial cleaners?
The discussion of anti-bacterial soaps and cleaning products present controversy. Anti-bacterial products kill germs on contact. But the debate arises where many people feel overuse can create super germs. These germs may become more resistance to antibodies.
Whether this is or not us not 100% clear. The CDC performed a study of 224 households. These households use anti-bacterial soaps and found them no healthier than people who do not.
Manufacturers try to make you believe anti-bacterial soap is better. The study shows health levels of regular soap and anti-bacterial soap users are the same. Regular soap still releases germs from the skin to be washed down the sink or wiped up with towel.
Antibacterial or Not? How Do You Decide?
If the health effects are the same then how do you decide which is best? Is the creation of resistant super germs possible? If you think so then stick with the safer choice of regular soap.
Anti-bacterial soaps or cleaning chemicals kill germs on contact. However, you can remove germs just as effectively using a general-purpose cleaner with correct techniques.
What are Proper Cleaning Techniques?
By techniques I mean:
- You are using properly laundered cleaning cloths.
- Allow the cleaner or soap time to work
- Remove the suspended soils using a clean cloth and polish the surface dry.
Problems with cleaners arise when not using properly laundered cleaning materials. Or over wetting them and using unacceptable cleaning methods. If so then germs are not removed properly. They are being redistributed to other areas. Poor cleaning techniques significantly reduce the effects of any chemical used.
At Mint Commercial Cleaning we always use properly laundered cleaning cloths and train our employees to the highest standards on the proper cleaning techniques required to kill germs effectively.
Certainly, one has a need to understand which chemicals need to be used to be sure germs are being killed properly. However, the techniques being used are far more likely to have a greater effect on the success of any cleaning program than the cleaning products themselves. Don’t underestimate the impact of proper cleaning technique if you are seeking to have a germ free or nearly germ-free environment.
